Thought you might like an idea of what the scales on Billy's arms look like.

Hey did you ask Blayne if she could draw him up for you?

At the risk of sounding terribly ignorant and embarrassing myself utterly . . .

Who's Blayne?

That is absolutely stunning! It makes me want a mer!Billy of my very own. Or at least, a perfectly-fitted pair of scale gauntlets.

Yummy! Perfectly delicious.

I'd like a mer of my very own, too. And the gauntlets.

I've loved this picture for years--it's from a book of mermaid stories around the world--and when I started Siren's Song I couldn't think of anything else I'd like more for him.

What is the title of the book? I'd dearly love to see if I could get hold of a copy.

Oh that's gorgeous. The scales would match his eyes - *sigh*

Does this mean we can look forward to new Sirens Song? *puppy dog eyes*

So.

Here's what I've come up with:

And here's a close-up of the face:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v71/fugitivehound/Personal%20Pictures/merbilly_face.jpg

That's sort of the rough draft, I need to refine a lot of the lines, fix some of the details, etc. but I wanted to get your general opinion of it. Check where the scales are, the size of the scales, etc. and let me know if they look right. Is the tail right? Did you picture more of a dolphin tail or something else entirely? Is his hair the right length/style/etc.? All those things I can change pretty easily.

I'm also considering toning down the muscles a bit. I'm torn about it, because Billy's not terribly muscular, but I think someone who spent their life swimming would be. So I'd like your opinion.

I'm not sure I like the position, either. It looks a bit awkward, so I was thinking of moving one of his arms. If I did, which one would you prefer (right or left)?

Also, I think I remember reading that you said the scales on his arms were silver? If so, is his tail also silver?

Umm. I think those are all the questions I had. :D Let me know what you think!

Wow! That's Billy as merman! *bows in amazement of powers of art*

*takes deep breath*

Okay. I can think again.

The tail is good, thought there's also a sort of fin in the back, from where knees to the bottom of the calf muscle would be. Not a stiff one, like a shark, but one of the filmy ones that can be opened or closed. Um. If that makes sense? His hair is good, maybe add a bit more length and curl at the ends but that's really minor.

I think the muscle definition is appropriate, with as much swimming as he does. Maybe tone it down slightly, but not a lot.

The left arm strikes me as odd, though I couldn't say exactly why (having not had a lot of drawing classes or experience). And all his scales are a silver-metallic-green. So mostly green, with silver highlights.

Let me know if there's anything else!

And again, wow! This is so, so cool and good and amazing. I'm truly overwhelmed and happy and all those kinds of things.

All right, I'll add the fin in the back (not sure how much you'll be able to see from this angle, but if it's possible I'll make it apparent). I was also thinking about how you described his fin in the bathtub scene, and I think I'll change it to make the bend less joint-like and more fluid, so it's apparent that it's flexible in more than just one direction. I was thinking a bit too human when I drew it. *G*

It occurred to me that I didn't specify whose left or right, so I'm assuming that you're talking about the arm that's on the left side of the page? If so, I agree ...that one gave me the most problems, so I'll mess around with it and see if I can't move it into a less awkward position.

Once I start coloring, I'll submit a basic color scheme for you to take a look at, and you can tell me whether or not it looks right. :D

Will post a link once I've revised. ^^

Probably can't see the fin, huh? Never mind about that.

More fluid would be good, yes.

And I meant Billy's left arm, because now I'm confused about right and left, too.

And still. Wow. This is so incredibly cool that you're doing this!
